In addition to the traditional heavy events and the piping and dancing competitions, the Highland Games features a number of very popular modern events.
This year's Highland Games Footy Japan 7's tournament will see an array of age groups play simultaneously on Kanda's impressive new Astro Turf - 4 different groups comprising U10's, U12's an adult open age group plus an exclusive masters group comprising over 35's will compete in small 7 a-sided matches. The format will consist of a group stage where each team will play each other once followed by a knoockout stage ultimately leading to the finals where the heroic endevours of the day will finally be rewarded - or not. Players can expect a friendly atmosphere, ample opportunity to sample whats on offer at the Highland Games plus a big shiny cup and medal if they can make it all the way!

The children are some of the fiercest competitors at the Highland Games. There will be a selection of children's races, including flat races, sack races, egg spoon races and a Stamp Rally. Fun for all the family and prizes galore.
The highly popular Tug o’ War always attracts a lot of interest, with spectators forming their own teams to test their strength in this fun competition.
There is no weight limit, but each eight-person team must include at least two women.
In addition to the Tug o’War and Football, there will also be a variety of adult races for those with any energy left over including “The Chieftain’s Challege” race. Community Scottish Country dancing takes place throughout the day.
